Performance research
Current:
- Critical Pathways research group at Independent Dance, led by Rosemary Butcher (Jan – Apr 11). Process-orientated, exploring journeys in London. Nothing concrete to share at the moment other than the joy of investigating deeply old and new ideas and finding ways of making them physical.
Past:
- Working with Sarah Owen to develop LMA/BF inspired voice and movement warm-up exercises for singing. This was an application project, part of my CMA training. Creative research took place over winter 2009-10.
- 2008-09 ‘In the Loop’ with violinist Helen Bower and dancer Ellen Steinmuller. Can a violinist move with a dancer whilst playing an extremely complex virtuosic violin solo (Ysaye) and usurp the expected divide between musician and dancers? She can. I acted as outside eye/dramaturg to this process.
Choreography
- 2010 Choreographer and performer with Janine Harrington in a music video commission for Squeeze for Slap and Tickle, a live mix of which can currently be seen on Squeeze’s current US tour (see a version at Radio City Music Hall here). I am currently trying to figure out how to get a video here (I may need to upgrade). It was filmed and edited by Colin Rozee of r2productions and shot on location at Greenwich Dance, the old Borough Hall, Greenwich (where incidentally Squeeze played their first gig). The concept was inspired by my maternal grandmother and her halting cleaning mid-way to tap dance. For now check it out, along with a tiny snippet of the stop-motion, via Janine Harrington’s site.
