Bartenieff Fundamentals is an approach to movement training that deals with patterning connections in the body, according to principles of efficient functioning, within a context which encourages personal expression and full psychophysical involvement. These begin on the floor and translate into level change, standing and locomotion. Unlike other somatic approaches, you take active responsibility for your movement, with me as a facilitator helping guide your explorations. Hands-on work supports different aspects of your experience, such as initiation and sequencing or to encourage weight sensing, and permission to make contact is always sought.
The goal of BF is to facilitate the lively interplay of inner connectivity for efficient body functioning with outer expressivity. Exploring BF utilizes the entire framework of Laban Movement Analysis: Body, Effort, Shape, Space.
BF practice leads into other explorations based on the nature of who I am working with and their interests and goals. This could be specific: dance improvisation, playing an instrument or delivering a monologue, or more general: level changes and locomotion.
This language is a fantastic tool to deepen performance skills, communication, self-knowledge, increased awareness and involvement in daily life, leisure activities and sports. Current and past clients include Dance Movement Therapists, Dancers, Dance Scientists, trainee Pilates instructors, Yoga teachers, Actors and Musicians.
Sessions are 1.15 hour long, and I recommend beginning with weekly visits. A minimum of six one-to-one re-patterning sessions is recommended. You wear loose comfortable clothing and work bare-foot. All the work is adaptable to seated and standing if lying on the floor is not comfortable. To book a series and for further questions, please contact me using the email address on the Contact page.
