Build your own movement practice

Why might you want your own movement practice?

To prepare and recover for and from your day, to mark transitions, to find ritual practices for health and embodied reflection, to work through injury or long-term health conditions.

This online workshop uses materials from the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System, somatic movement education and dance improvisation to support you in building and developing your own movement practice. I will facilitate with tools and processes you can extend and explore in your own way. Your unique experience of life is through a body moving. This workshop aims to complement any existing practices you already do, and help you shape one if you want to start. Your goals may be more towards functionality or more towards expressivity/creativity: you will have the opportunity to explore the interconnection of these ideas in this workshop.

Some experience of dance (any style), and/or bodymind practice (such as yoga) needed. If you have a sports/parkour/functional movement background you are also very welcome.

What

This online workshop is delivered through practical tasks and experiments, with time for discussion and questions. You will receive questions and materials to read in advance. By the end of the workshop you should have a clearer sense of how to build a movement practice, feel confident using tools to follow your impulses, reflect upon your needs, and consider movement and life in many overlapping phrases.

Why

2 two-hour sessions over the weekend will immerse you in processes and movement explorations. These will open questions you can bring to a 1 to 1 session after the weekend.

Building a practice takes time. This design is intended to give you space to reflect, deepen and move in your own space. And it gives me an opportunity to meet you more closely!

Details

Saturday 7 + Sunday 8 November 2020: 2 hours live online session each day. 10am-12 GMT / 11am – 13 CET.

Sessions will be recorded and made available if you cannot attend live.

A thirty minute 1 to 1 individual movement coaching/discussion session with me to take place sometime between 9 and 13 November.
