Laura Lee Greenhalgh, Dance artist and Graham Technique teacher commissioned me to observe her teaching Martha Graham Technique at leading contemporary dance conservatoire TrinityLaban.
Laura wanted me to observe and analyse whether what she was verbally instructing and what she was showing with her movements ‘matched’. Having trained in the work of Rudolf Laban as well as in teaching Graham Technique, Laura already uses many terms from Laban in her teaching. Using my skills as a Laban Movement Analyst, I could successfully identify her process and feedback to her my observations to further support her teaching practice for the benefit her students – future professional dance artists themselves.
‘It was a really valuable experience to use your expertise. Your observation and de-brief offered great clarity, and increased my vocabulary for new processes of analysing movement that has opened up both more creative possibilities and greater coherency and understanding.’
